The UN Global Compact engages in a large number of national and international activities and events. At the international level, the events are coordinated by the Global Compact Office in New York. All events organized by the Global Compact Office can be found here.
In addition to worldwide events, the Global Compact Office also provides support to members through the following activities:
- Topic-specific campaigns in which companies can participate, such as Caring for Climate (a platform for Global Compact members offering practical solutions and concrete directions for climate protection measures in companies and that draws public attention to the topic of climate protection; click here for more information.)
- Documentation of examples of best practices in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption (see: Annual Review 2010)
Activities of the Austrian Global Compact Network
The Local Networks manages the Global Compact activities at the national level. In Austria, respACT coordinates the activities of the Austrian Global Compact Network as its Focal Point. However, all members of the Network are invited to take part in shaping its activities.
respACT coordinates the following activities of the Austrian Global Compact Network:
1. General Meetings
respACT organizes the so-called General Meetings, exclusive meetings for the members of the Austrian Global Compact Network, twice a year. These meetings focus on the following:
- An informal exchange of CSR and sustainability experiences among the participating organizations
- A report on the current activities of the Austrian Global Compact Network
- The sharing of knowledge about the ten principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption
- Presentation of best practice examples from participating companies
- Initiation of cooperation projects between companies and other participating organizations to promote the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals
2. Workshops and Working Groups
respACT hosts workshops on the annual focus area each year to provide the UN Global Compact participants with knowledge and instruments for implementing the ten principles and to share best practices. More information about the focus areas can be found here.
3. Focus Area
Every year, respACT selects a focus area in cooperation with the Steering Committee and in coordination with the Austrian UN Global Compact participants. All activities and events in that year focus on this area. In 2012, the focus is on Rio+20.
4. Steering Committee
A Steering Committee that is composed of particularly dedicated members of the UN Global Compact Network meets twice a year to plan and evaluate the Network’s activities. Click here for details about the Steering Committee.
