A central element of the UN Global Compact is promoting stakeholder dialog; in other words, an exchange between companies and the various groups that are affected by their activities, such as governmental and non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, interest groups, civil society and the media.

The UN Global Compact sees itself as a multi-stakeholder platform with the primary objective of promoting dialog between the individual interest groups and fostering partnerships that facilitate the implementation of the ten principles.
